WASHINGTON – When Nancy McLernon brought her plans to the Executive Committee in January, GBA’s leadership began to consider where the challenges in the future may arise and who would be best suited to lead GBA into that future.
“On behalf of the EC and the Board, I am excited to announce that Jonathan Samford, GBA’s current executive vice president, will be taking over the helm as President and CEO upon Nancy’s departure,” said Tony O’Donnell, chair of the GBA board of directors.
“I am humbled to be following in the footsteps of Nancy and excited about stewarding GBA through its next chapter,” said Mr. Samford. “Without a doubt, my time with this incredible organization has been a highlight of my professional career. What Nancy has accomplished for international companies in the U.S. over the past 30+ years is remarkable.”
Mr. Samford has been with the organization since 2013 and leads the group’s advocacy team. He will assume the CEO role on January 1, 2025.
“Jon has been an integral part of the GBA team for over a decade and has led the advocacy team for more than two years. Before joining GBA, he held several positions on Capitol Hill, working for influential Members of Congress in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives,” Mr. O’Donnell added.
“Those who have worked with him know he’s a proven leader who drives for results while also prioritizing strong relationships. He has a knack for uncovering new possibilities and fostering an enthusiastic, fun work environment. I have no doubt that Jon will continue the upward trajectory that Nancy has built for this great organization,” he concluded.
