Location: Washington, DC
Reports to: President & CEO
The Global Business Alliance (GBA) seeks a highly strategic, analytically rigorous and action-oriented leader to serve as Senior Director, Strategic Insights.
Reporting to the President and CEO, this role will help GBA strengthen a critical next-generation capability: identifying the geopolitical, economic policy, and business developments most likely to affect international companies operating in the United States, and translating those developments into timely, decision-useful insight for GBA members.
This is not a lobbying role, a communications role, or a think tank role. It is a cross-cutting leadership position designed to help GBA absorb outside inputs, connect them to what members are telling us, identify where alignment exists and turn that into targeted action and member value. The successful candidate will be a strong policy strategist and synthesizer with excellent judgment, exceptional writing skills, and the ability to convert complex developments into practical insight for decisionmakers.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Strategic Insight Development
- Identify and track the policy, geopolitical, economic and business environment developments most likely to affect international companies operating in the United States.
- Develop a disciplined issue architecture that helps GBA organize emerging risks, opportunities and strategic questions across issue areas.
- Produce timely, high-quality strategic analysis that helps GBA members understand what is changing, why it matters and what to watch next.
- Translate cross-cutting developments into practical implications for member companies, GBA strategy and institutional positioning.
Provide Executive-Ready, Real-Time Analysis
- Produce concise executive briefs, rapid-response analyses and decision-oriented materials for the organization.
- Support the President and CEO with high-quality strategic framing, background analysis and briefing materials.
- Provide timely interpretation of major developments as they unfold, often in hours or days rather than weeks.
- Ensure that the function is judged by usefulness, clarity, and strategic value, not by output volume.
Build and Manage Member Intelligence Systems
- Create disciplined, low-friction mechanisms to gather and organize insight from member companies on emerging issues, risks and practices.
- Design and manage systems for structured signal capture, including targeted member outreach, pulse checks, workshop follow-up and issue-specific information gathering.
- Identify patterns across member input and translate those insights into useful institutional knowledge.
- Support GBA’s efforts to understand where member priorities align by sector, issue, geography and company profile.
Support Strategic Coordination and Cross-Functional Value
- Work closely with the government affairs team to identify where GBA should go deeper, maintain baseline engagement or pursue more targeted coordination.
- Help map relevant external stakeholders, peer organizations, and ecosystem relationships around key issue areas.
- Partner with communications, membership and events teams to ensure insights are translated into stronger programming, clearer member value and more effective external positioning.
- Help connect policy substance to executive narrative, member engagement and strategic convening.
Lead Strategic Outreach
- Oversee GBA’s strategic outreach and external engagement capability, including management of the outreach role reporting into this function.
- Help translate strategic analysis, stakeholder mapping and issue priorities into targeted outreach plans and external engagement opportunities.
- Support the development of validator relationships, convenings and follow-through that broaden GBA’s influence beyond traditional lanes.
Qualifications
- At least 10-15 years of relevant experience in public policy, strategic analysis, government, associations, think tanks, intelligence, corporate strategy or a related field.
- Strong understanding of the policy, economic and geopolitical issues affecting international companies operating in the United States.
- Exceptional analytical and synthesis skills, with the ability to convert complex, cross-cutting developments into clear and practical insight.
- Excellent writing and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to produce concise, polished executive-level materials.
- Demonstrated ability to brief senior leaders and distill ambiguity into actionable judgment.
- Sound judgment, maturity, and discretion; ability to operate effectively in a high-trust, high-expectation environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams and with senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience designing structured information-gathering, stakeholder mapping or strategic planning processes preferred.
- Familiarity with trade associations, member-based organizations, corporate government affairs or the needs of multinational companies preferred.
